Empowering Charities to Support Domestic Abuse Survivors

The Ask Joan app offers a discreet way for charities to assist those experiencing domestic abuse. By monitoring unusual surges in electricity usage, such as from kettles or toasters, the app can detect when someone may be in distress and alert trusted contacts or authorities. This simple yet powerful tool is saving lives and providing a way for victims to reach out for help without their abuser knowing.

Ask Joan was created by Katy Longhurst, who turned her own traumatic experiences into a tool that can save lives. Her understanding of the complexities of domestic abuse ensures the app is designed with survivors's safety and needs at the forefront.

The app uses real-time data to detect unusual patterns, such as surges in electricity use, and can send silent alerts to a pre-selected list of contacts.

This allows charities to step in when a survivor may not be able to reach out themselves.
